It is located in the southeast of Nayarit State, bordering the municipalities of San Pedro Lagunillas, Santa Maria del Oro, Jala, and the State of Jalisco. According to researches, this town is settled on a region rich on archeology, where a high concentration of underground tombs and pottery have been found. These archaic items belong to the early years of 200 b.C through the 600’s a.d. An example is the tombs are found in Las Cebollas village; where two human skeletons with 83 pottery vessels were found. Some solid and hollow figurines in chinesco style, give testimony of exchange activities between the inhabitants of those time.
In these lands, a kingdom was established by the name of “Señorio de Ahuacatlán”. This small territory with a huge political power, dominated several surrounding towns.
