This town is located on the top of the Occidental Sierra Madre 1mille high over the sea level. In the times of Colony got to have a population of 20,000 people due of its mines activity in the region. The principal minerals extracted from these mines were Gold, Silver and Copper. This population decrease in the middle of the century XIX when they close the mines. Actually, there are no more than 6,000 habitants in the area and only 1,100 in the town.

The main attractivs in the town are: La Taberna,  Progreso bridge, El Temple of San Sebastián, the coffe factory "La Quinta", the old graveyard, Pabellón Hotel,, The Zocalo, etc.
